My New Album is out today! Celebrating Italian Chamber Music

Writer: Riccardo PesRiccardo Pes

I am overjoyed to announce the release of my new album in collaboration with the exceptionally pianist Pierluigi Piran. Published by the renowned TACTUS music label, this album is a heartfelt tribute to Italian chamber music and a true labor of love.

This album is a carefully curated collection of amazing Italian chamber music, for cello and piano, featuring timeless pieces by celebrated composers such as Leone Sinigaglia, Guido Alberto Fano, and Renzo Massarani (world premier). Degenerate music (German: Entartete Musik) was a label applied in the 1930s by the government of Nazi Germany to certain forms of music that it considered harmful or decadent. The Nazi government's concerns about degenerate music were a part of its larger and better-known campaign against degenerate art (German: Entartete Kunst). In both cases, the government attempted to isolate, discredit, discourage, or ban the works.

Each composition is a window into Italy’s rich musical heritage, filled with passion, colors, intricate rhythms, and timeless melodies.

Working alongside Pierluigi Piran has been an incredibly rewarding experience. His profound musical insight and exceptional piano skills have breathed new life into these classic works. Together, we have strived to honor the spirit of these compositions while bringing our own creative expression to each recording.

I am also honored to include the contributions of the distinguished musicologist Federica Nardacci, an unrivaled expert on Italian music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Her scholarly insights and deep understanding of the historical and cultural context behind these works have enriched this project immeasurably. Federica’s expertise has helped illuminate the significance of these compositions, providing a deeper narrative that connects the past with the present.

Being published by TACTUS, a label synonymous with quality in the classical music scene, is an honor beyond words. Their unwavering commitment to supporting artists and their projects has made this album possible, and I am truly grateful for their belief in our vision.
